From oil mill to cave hotel.
In Mustafapaşa, formerly Sinasos, the Bezirhane oil mill and the old Greek mansion above it remained in use until the population exchange. The buildings later fell into ruin. A five-year restoration beginning in 2003 brought both back to life.
Konak Bezirhane is now a boutique cave hotel with 23 rooms: 19 cave rooms and four stone-arched rooms. Local breakfast and evening meals are served indoors and outdoors, while the former Bezirhane has become an enclosed restaurant.
Beside the historic Maraşoğlu Bridge, the hotel rises in terraces along the slope above the Aios Nicholas Monastery Valley. Each level offers another perspective on the valley and Mustafapaşa.

Once, there was a Bezirhane…
What began as a hotel project became a way to care for a piece of Mustafapaşa’s heritage.
The mansion and oil mill stood quietly among Mustafapaşa’s streets for many years. Millstones once turned here, and a wooden screw press was used to extract oil. The mansion above was part of that everyday life.
When work began on the long-neglected buildings, we took time to uncover what remained. Original cave rooms, arches, skilled stonework and the old mill mechanism emerged as the site was cleared. The restoration gave the buildings a new purpose while preserving these traces.
Each room still carries the texture of its past. A stay at Konak Bezirhane offers more than a place to sleep: it is a chance to encounter the building’s story and the lives behind it.

Cappadocia’s living cultural mosaic.
Formerly known as Sinasos, Mustafapaşa has around 200 registered historic structures reflecting Byzantine, Ottoman and early Republican periods. Stone houses, churches, streets and local traditions reveal the village’s many layers.
The shared culture of Muslim and non-Muslim communities before the population exchange was enriched by migrants from Macedonia who arrived later. This heritage remains visible in the village’s architecture and daily life.
In 2021, Mustafapaşa was named among the UN World Tourism Organization’s Best Tourism Villages for its commitment to preserving local life and cultural heritage.
